This photo was texted to me from a mate in Casino at 7.28 am. At the time I was stuck at home in Tullera, high and somewhat dry but flooded in. I called Meg and Jess and thankfully they could get into the practice, albeit wading through flood water, and with their partners were able to lift most of the computers and other stuff up out of harms way.
This is what they confronted-
Thankfully the water was storm water and not the horribly muddy river water that affected so many other people of the region. However, the water rose a further 30cm before it was finished. This resulted in all of the dental chairs being non-functional and so began the long process of getting up and running and eventually ‘returning to normal’.
It would be three weeks before we were able to get one dental chair repaired and functioning which was good but, with two dentists, difficult logistically. I did three days and Annie two so at least we could provide some care for our patients. Another six weeks would pass before we had two functioning dental chairs and then another three for a third to be able to be used. The forth chair was unable to be repaired. This would be our ‘new normal’ for the time being. However, all of the dental chairs and cabinets would ultimately need to be replaced due to the water damage.
The insurance company came and assessed the practice and, because of the photos taken above, determined that it was storm water and not flood water that did the damage and hence we were covered. Phew!!!!
But……… there was mould in the walls and the whole practice would need to be stripped out and the mould treated. Then our rebuild could begin.

After trying to prepare our patients for the previous six months, we had to close our doors so that the remediation work could begin…
>
First, the place was completely stripped out to about half way up the walls. The mould was treated and place had to be left for about three weeks to kill everything.

Ok, ready to go…. Let’s get our practice back!!

‘We should go for a new look and modernise the place’. Meg and Jess were onto something here
