Emergency Care

Having a broken tooth or a toothache can be one of life’s most unpleasant experiences. Unfortunately, pain can cause us to make some rash decisions.

The extreme pain that is often the case with dental pain can leave people thinking that their only course of action is to have the tooth removed. While this may seem reasonable at the time, many people regret this decision with the advantage of hindsight.

At Centre Street Dental, our aim when faced with a patient in pain, is to make sure that our emergency dentist treatment is focussed on getting the patient out of pain without doing anything too drastic such as taking out the tooth. This allows the patient the chance to make a decision later about how to treat the tooth based on options not on pain level.

At the time of the appointment:

  • The dentist will obtain a thorough history of the problem.
  • Issues such as pain to hot, cold or biting and the length of the pain are important as they give the dentist an idea of what may be going on.
  • The causes of dental pain can be as minor as food packing between the teeth to a major problem such as a splitting tooth.
  • Unfortunately, the level of pain experienced by the patient can be quite severe whether the cause is relatively minor or more serious. This is why it is important to see your dentist whenever you are in any pain.

At Centre Street Dental, any patient in pain is seen as soon as possible. We have time set aside every day for emergencies as we believe that it is important to be able to get people out of pain.

Our front desk staff will try to get as much information as possible from you so that the correct time can be allocated for your problem.
